Discover More About Nourishing Massage: 6 Facts You Didn’t Know

Nourishing Massage Story

If you’ve been on Facebook recently, you’ve likely seen posts where people share fun facts about themselves. Inspired by this trend, I thought sharing some lesser-known facts about Nourishing Massage would be enjoyable.

1. The Name “Nourishing Massage”

Nourishing Massage is named after my favorite traditional cookbook, Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon. During my last year in the Massotherapy program at Cuyahoga Community College, I wanted a name that embodied holistic wellness. While brainstorming names with my mom, I glanced at my bookshelf and saw Nourishing Traditions. The name resonated with me immediately. I envisioned massage as more than just a physical treatment; it’s about nurturing the mind, body, and spirit, helping clients through life’s challenges. “Nourishing” signifies caring for every cell in the body, inside and out.

2. My Diverse Interests

Growing up, my career aspirations were varied: psychologist, physical therapist, professional dancer, and graphic designer. Massage therapy turned out to be the perfect blend of all these interests:

  • Psychologist: I love listening to people and helping them navigate their concerns. Although I considered a career in psychology, the extensive schooling deterred me.
  • Physical Therapist: After 18 years of dance and personal experience with a foot disability, I became highly aware of body mechanics and movement and wanted to help others with similar issues.
  • Professional Dancer: Dance was my first love. After major foot surgery, dance became my form of physical therapy, encompassing various styles like ballet, jazz, and ballroom.
  • Graphic Designer: I have always enjoyed art. My high school Digital Design class sparked my passion, allowing me to merge creativity with technology.

As a massage therapist, I integrate these passions:

  • Psychologist: I listen to and support my clients emotionally.
  • Physical Therapist: I encourage movement, following the philosophy that “motion is lotion.”
  • Dancer: I approach massage with the fluidity and grace of dance.
  • Graphic Designer: I design all my business materials myself, tailoring them to my vision.

3. Why I Chose Massage Therapy

Several experiences led me to massage therapy:

  • Childhood Relief: My mom massaged my painful foot during growth spurts and after long hours of dancing, providing immense relief.
  • Family Care: I often massaged my parents’ neck and shoulders, finding joy in easing their discomfort.
  • Hospice Work: As a hospice aide, I valued one-on-one care, bringing peace to patients in their final days.
  • Encouragement: My “Uncle” Mike saw my potential and encouraged me to enroll in the Massotherapy Program at Cuyahoga Community College. His belief in me was instrumental, and I honor his memory with my work.

4. The Design Process

I personally designed my business logo, brochures, loyalty cards, and web page. While in massage school, I started sketching my logo, which I later refined using Adobe Photoshop. The process took hours, but the result exceeded my expectations.

5. The Logo’s Meaning

My logo is rich with personal significance:

  • Nature: It reflects my respect for the earth, emphasizing the reciprocity between nourishing the earth and our bodies.
  • Ocean Colors: These colors evoke the peace I feel at the beach.
  • Flowing Lines: The text flows like ocean waves and human curves, avoiding harsh lines.
  • Daisies and Hummingbirds: Daisies honor my Granny Daisy, a special influence in my life, and hummingbirds remind me of cherished family memories.

6. Moving Nourishing Massage Home

After trying various locations, I moved my business into my home in July. Despite initial hesitations about mixing personal and professional spaces, it allows me to offer more personalized care. Clients can see firsthand my recommendations for Paleo/ Keto or essential oils. My mission is to guide clients toward total body wellness, treating them as extended family.
